Lemnos – Sightseeing by Car
Exploring Lemnos is best done by car, because the long distances on the island may be difficult if you rely on local transportation or bicycles.

Kondias, Lemnos
Our suggested route starts in the southern part of the island, with Kondias as the starting point — one of the largest villages on Lemnos, located about 10 minutes from Myrina.
Kondias is famous for its beautiful stone windmills, which once milled wheat, and for the stone mansions of the ship captains of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The hill with the windmills is a great stop for photos, and you can also enjoy a morning walk through the village’s charming narrow alleys.
In the village, you can also admire the fortified church of Saint John the Baptist and the works of major European artists housed in the Modern Art Gallery.
Kondias is also known for its locally produced ouzo, which you can buy from the village distillery as a souvenir or gift.
Portianou, Lemnos
Your tour continues with a visit to the village of Portianou, located about 7 minutes from Kondias and known for its traditional mansions.
Here, you can enjoy your morning coffee in the village square, and then visit the Folklore Museum, which among its exhibits features Winston Churchill’s armchair — a reminder of his presence on the island during the Gallipoli campaign.
The village is also home to the Second Allied Cemetery of Lemnos, which pays tribute to the fallen soldiers of World War I who participated in the campaign under the leadership of General Winston Churchill.
Diapori Beach
Leaving Portianou, head to Diapori Beach, about 8 minutes away, where you can enjoy a swim in crystal-clear waters.
Diapori is a sandy beach with deep waters, peaceful, without crowds and without sunbeds — so make sure to bring anything you may need during your stay.
There is, however, a small seaside taverna nearby where you can find cold refreshments.
The beach features a picturesque little bay with fishing boats, and you can also observe the sandy passage that connects the Fakos Peninsula to the rest of the island.

Tsimandria, Lemnos
Just 3 minutes from Diapori Beach, you will reach the village of Tsimandria, a popular summer stop for travelers heading to or from the beach.
Follow the tree-lined road leading to the village square, where you can refresh yourself with cold spring water from the traditional fountain.
This is a great place to stop for lunch, as the village has several small tavernas serving delicious local dishes.
